2012: Year in Review

I wish I had more to show this year. Because of schooling, teaching, location, and other factors, I didn't take as many photos as I had hoped. I hope I have more photo opportunities in 2013. Here are some of the best shots from 2012... roop_20120727_wx_01 roop_2012058-16_SLFA_11 roop_2012058-16_SLFA_04 roop_2012058-16_SLFA_03 roop_20120308_photoclubportraits_04 roop_20121223_rainbowsprings_06 roop_20120813_wx_lightning_01 roop_20120927_noxubeerefuge02 roop_20120927_noxubeerefuge01 roop_20120704_4thofJuly_10

Portrait Time!

On Thursday, I had a chance to participate with the photo club at Mississippi State in getting portrait shots of models. It was fun getting back into something I haven't done much of in a while. Here are a few of my best shots from that night. Enjoy!

The Lady Lake Tornado - Five Years Later

Five years ago, just when I started out as a journalism student at the University of Florida, central Florida experienced a deadly tornado outbreak. Three tornadoes rolled through Sumter, Lake, and Volusia counties during the early morning hours of Feb. 2, 2007 and killed 21 people, making it the second deadliest tornado outbreak in Florida history (the deadliest being the February 1998 tornado outbreak). After hearing about the outbreak, I grabbed my notepad, voice recorder, and DSLR and headed to Lady Lake. I talked to those who were affected and grabbed a few shots of the aftermath. I was taken aback by the damage and destruction from a tornado that was roughly 15 miles from my parent's home. Here are a few photos from that day.

There was at least six feet of erosion on the beach. It was not like this when I visited back in May.

Photos from Lake Weir

I'm back in Florida for the next two weeks, and it's good to be home. Damaris (my girlfriend) and I took a trip to Lake Weir in southeastern Marion County. We went to two different county parks Sunday evening: Hampton Beach, and Carney Island. Here are a few shots...

Jessica

Jessica Chism, a meteorology undergraduate at Mississippi State, asked me to take some photos of her this morning under a tight deadline. We walked around downtown Starkville for a bit and grabbed a few shots at locations that called to my ideas and immediate interest. So, here are a few images.
